Fresh Covers

SplendidCitrus - Fresh Covers

"It sounds as though we have a technical problem to look into. I can spare you a long-winded rundown of the technical aspects, but what you will all need to know going into this job is that Starsight Spire has a very special system of drapes and woven leaves up at the very top of this spire, which are drawn together to keep the interior of the town from flooding in rain. Unfortunately it seems like someone has sprouted a series of leaves and vines through the coverings, which has gotten them stuck too tightly. And, according to Thatcher, there is something or someone hiding inside that's making it difficult to free them up again."

"I'm sure you all are plenty familiar with pulling a few weeds after last time, so we'll trust you not to need an explanation of how to get that work done! Hah! Keep your eyes open though, and don't let anyone that might be hiding out in that brush catch you by surprise. Be ready to holler for help from me, the Sages, or your other guildmates if you start having trouble. And especially make sure not to damage the equipment up here, or we might have to take some extra time learning how to make replacements!"

"I can't honestly say I'd be against that, but we may have to wait for a better time."

"Of course, Eunice! And actually, maybe learning a little more about how these spreads work can help us to untangle them. I'll ask Thatcher for some blueprints to pass around. Let's just not fall asleep reading! Thatcher does want us to get this done BEFORE nightfall after all~"

"Everyone, please follow me to the top. We'll have to begin by climbing up to the exterior of the mountain safely."

The rain covers need cleaning!

It looks like someone, most likely the Black Arms, have made the area into a personal hiding place. Thanks to the extra vines and foliage, the covers will need to be cleaned carefully to avoid tearing open the drapes that the town uses as rain protection.

However, if the characters hiding here are still around, you will need to be ready to fight them off. Things can get rough when a hideout is being threatened!

If your teams find themselves in need of help, all 4 Sages leaders and the Overseer Graham will be present and ready to give their assistance and direction - and even their muscle, if a fight breaks out.

As payment, every participant in the cleaning effort will be given 1 rosc

Roscs Value 01

and 1 Large Palm

Klumzyninja - Large Palm

, a tool that can whip up a Tailwind or Gust for 3 uses before breaking. All guild members will also receive 1 point of affinity with the Sages Branch.

Paper Trail

KentheEagle - Paper Trail

"I hope you guys are ready to book it, 'cause that trip through the mountains was just a warmup for the real deal!"

"We'll start with what we know: Thatcher told Haku and me that the town keeps all their paperwork in one office. Mostly the boring stuff like public meetings, book drives, yadda yadda. Some of it is money stuff though! And if the wrong person's got the papers for payments and trades, that's gonna be a loooot of Roscs that this guy stole."

"So it's up to us to chase down the bad guys and get this stuff back. And we already got a good lead! There's two guys in town right now that didn't exactly buy a house, and that's the Thwackey and Simisage with black coats that folks around here have been seeing lately. If we spot either of them carrying around a bag or box full of something suspicious, then we found our perp."

"We took out Flo already, so this should be a piece of cake. Just remember that we gotta get those papers back first! Nobody wants Bruno chewing their tail off for ditching the town's stuff to catch the criminal."

"Not that we're gonna have that sort of problem. Jules and Stein will be backing you guys up along with us, and Hiyam and me will probably pin those coats guys down in a flash! Just in case any of you spot 'em first though, just stick together and make sure not to get surprised. Get ready and get moving, all right? C'mon Hiyam, let's go!!"

Starsight's official documents have been stolen!

Maroche of the Black Arms has made off with a lot of paperwork that Thatcher needs to keep the town organized and finances secured. Without those papers, a lot of work will never be done and Starsight might even find itself in debt. Besides, who knows what the Black Arms would use the money they stole for?

If you come into contact with this Thwackey, try to focus on getting the stolen documents back before engaging in combat. But if there's no choice, you might have to get some extra help. Without the Scavengers leaders or other teams to back you up, Maroche might beat you senseless and get away with his loot. Be very careful!

As payment, everyone who helps hunt down the stolen documents will be given 1 rosc

Roscs Value 01

and 1 pair of Third-Eye Glasses

klumzyninja - Third-Eye Glasses

, which can empower one move in battle at the cost of making any other move unusable. All guild members will also receive 1 point of affinity with the Scavengers Branch.

Door-to-Door

KazzMcSass - Door-to-Door

P A Y A T T E N T I O N E V E R Y O N E.

"Thank you, Stourch. Now, first of all I want everyone to take this job extremely seriously. Bear in mind that even if Starsight Spire has no official guild or police force, they are not helpless either and Thatcher has done a good job of dealing with folks who act up and make trouble."

"Which means that the two we're looking for aren't any ordinary troublemakers. They're coordinated and could be very dangerous, especially if it's just the two of them."

"Yes. Bruno knows how to deal with dangerous opponents directly, and I know more strategies for combat than most. Between us four, I know that we have enough firepower and mental strength to overcome whatever the "Black Arms" are throwing at us. Especially since their goal is not to destroy the town, but to run it."

"You didn't mention our fourth, sir."

"Oh, yes. Thank you Bruno. Everyone, Violet has decided to help us to bring down the Black Arms. I expect each and every one of you to show her the same respect that you have during the trip through the previous Dungeon. Now will be a bit different, though, as she will be ready to directly engage in combat. Would you mind explaining your best techniques, miss Violet?"

"Of course. Thank you, Noryx. Now, I want everyone to know that my powers are substantial, but they are not precise. The best way for me to bring down these Black Arms is to hit their life force with enough energy to put them to sleep, but I can't do that without a straight line of sight - otherwise my power will spread wide and affect both you and the townsfolk here in Starsight. Therefore, I think it would be best if your teams and leaders drove these thieves toward me, rather than having me try to chase them down."

"Very good. As I've said, there's no doubt that we will succeed in the end. What matters most, recruits, is that we make our plans so that as few Pokémon as possible end up getting hurt. Now, let's catch these criminals and see how much of their stolen goods can be returned to their right owners."

There's a thief loose on the town!

Apparently someone in a black coat has been going around blackmailing and bullying folk into paying not to have their homes trashed or being beaten up. The perpetrator is Serjche of the Black Arms, someone clever enough to use every shadow and hiding place to his advantage to get away.

Dealing with him might remind a few folks of Flo the Spoink, thanks to his speed and dexterity making him a tricky foe to get close to. Serjche is a lot more tactical and even a bit deadly, however, so don't underestimate his threat. Be prepared to rely on a teammate, other teams or your guild leaders and Violet if things come down to a fight. It may take everyone just to get back the goods he's stolen!

Those who get back the stolen roscs will be paid 1 for their team

Roscs Value 01

and get 1 Illuminant Badge

Klumzyninja - Illuminant Badge

, which recognizes your team as official guardians of Starsight Spire and may cause Paralysis or prevent an enemy from fleeing. All guild members will also receive 1 point of affinity with the Raiders Branch.

[EDIT] Due to the outbreak situation, we understand that a lot of you need extra time to take care of yourselves and your families and may not have time to participate in this event. It will be extended until October 31st.

wants to hear some details about a tiny little goofball of a duck soooo here we go~

Rules:
1.) Post the rules.
2.) Post 8 facts about your character.
3.) Tag 8 other characters.
4.) Post their names along with their creators'.

8 facts about Liam of Team Smooth Standing in
Also this was technically done already soooo have a look if you haven't already!

  • Meta first - the idea for Liam came from the idea in real life that ducks, and even more so geese, are awful creatures that either beg for food or outright attack people. I imagined what would it be like if a duck was friendly but awkward and shy? And so Liam was born in my head!

  • It may not be clear from the stories thus far, but Liam is more or less a wild creature. He may know how to read and write, but things like living in a permanently-constructed house, building and using tools is all but foreign to him. He and his flock just made huts out of reeds if they had to, but more often than not they just slept on or near the water with no problem. Not that he's got it in him to judge non-waterfowl though, considering how much differently they're built he knows it only makes sense that their living habits are a lot different too.

  • Jonathan was, and still mostly is, Liam's only friend that isn't a family member. He's got a strong trust in his Sneasel partner because Jonathan first appeared in a state of weakness which encouraged Liam to lend a helping hand (wing), and getting to know him after settling down from a rough night established Jon as a young man with strength in both spirit and body. DeSeRREL has enough of a presence to overshadow both of them in terms of raw power, but with how much of a little kid she seems to be sometimes, Liam just isn't sure if he should be trying to help feed her curiosity so that she can keep up with the rest of the guild, or get out of her way before she metaphorically (or literally) breaks something.

  • Having such a simple upbringing made Liam interested in learning about how "civilized cultures" go around building and repairing things. For now, it seems mostly like land folks do most of what his flock does, except using a lot more things that are just reconstructed or repaired from Ancient technology and equipment. It's no secret that the buildings in Rift City, for example, have been added to and patched up so many times to make them livable for Pokemon. Dessie and other metal Pokemon like her are just an example to Liam of just how much there is left to learn.

  • Liam does not expect that Jonathan's goal of taking over his family's rich empire will go down without a literal fight - again, he's not the sort of guy who lived in a culture where politics were much of a standard - but that also leaves him with the conundrum of fighting alongside his friend or turning his back. Liam isn't and will never be a fighter, but his loyalty already failed Jonathan once and he would feel sick to abandon Jon a second time. Spoilers: if there ever is a fight where Jon is at risk again, Liam will stick with him - but what he has to contribute would be a lot different than hitting the enemy until they're knocked out.

  • Liam is a great flyer, but he hasn't had much of a reason to show it yet. He taught himself to carry things with him to keep from going hungry when the flock moved on to the next lake and he hadn't eaten yet, so he's used to lifting a pound or two along with him. Those skills could be useful in the Cinders' exploits, maybe!

  • I'm afraid that's all I've got! There isn't much to Liam and I've given as much info as I can here, to be honest. Hopefully it was a fun read though.

If there is anyone who wants to follow along with these, hmm... Man is it hard to find folks with non-Pokemon OCs in my listings, at least that might have time to fill out a journal!

 - Apparently his name is Lytheus? :D
 - Boy it's getting tricky. What's to share about Yetta or Jawbreaker?
- You say you had a plan with Tikay? Let's hear it! :D
- Please tell me some stuff about Bibi!

Cameos/Collabs?

2 min read
I'm afraid I'm in a bit of a funk this month for RG's entries. I know how I want the big action and finales to hit, but I think I need help from other characters to get there. Is anyone up for taking part?

Please explain how your characters would fit in with the scenario if you just want a cameo. It's a lot easier to understand what you're going for if you give an explanation.

What I'll need are members from each guild.

ARDENT CINDERS:
Berry is going to take Reiko through the city to take in all the good things and the bad that the Pale Roses have done. This is going to lead to a combat situation with some of Gus's boys and girls.

The best fits for this one would be Pokemon who either are extremely observant of suspicious behavior, or who already have experience with doing shady business themselves.

ROARING ICEBERGS:
Jace will take his team underground after having one of his partners scout for any secret areas. This will lead to a fight with a dangerous thug, and then to Gus and Division.

The best fits for this one would be Pokemon who are brave, but preferably not reckless. What happens with the thug is going to be pretty serious, and traumatizing for just about any guild member. And of course Gus and Division are far worse.

If you'd like to collaborate on this project, please let me know! I'd be extremely grateful for the help and the opportunity to work with someone so we can enjoy crafting our stories together!

Miyako the Abra
ToT - Team Revival by Zero-Zivan

Let's see, what to begin with for the Kitty Kat...

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Obviously, I can't say I know what drives Morgan to pursue a way of reversing or preventing evolution but I assume it's a little different than what drives Miyako. For this particular Abra, she's always been a quiet and insightful girl and because of that she takes a lot of phrases most wouldn't look too deeply into to heart. She doesn't like the idea of Pokémon being defined by their power - it's all about having a great moveset or being physically able to achieve your goals in life. Miyako doesn't feel comfortable with changing her body to accommodate the expectations of others and has always held on to the idea that wisdom trumps strength. Even the wisest Pokémon, such as Metagross and Alakazam, tend to be recognized for their psychic power. Power is not what motivates Miyako, which is why she tries to separate herself from it.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Miyako's friendship with Serris started on a pretty comically bad step. During a morning shift, she and Eustace had a particularly moody Meowstic who'd already had one too many drinks stumble into the cafe looking for a coffee and a bite to eat. Eustace figured that he was trying to sober up and agreed to serve him, though after Serris started getting rowdy and he picked up on a rant about expectations for psychics doing all the thinking in the guilds, he suggested that Miyako join Serris to try and help calm the rowdy patron down. Miyako was hesitant at first, but did eventually agree to speak with the Meowstic and settle into their discussion. She didn't learn until later that Serris was a high-ranker in the Keepers branch who had been up late and gotten drunk shortly after a heated argument with another guilder before the sun had come up. The secret Ditto became her best friend after they exchanged opinions and ideals and discovered they had a lot in common.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Miyako has only two household relative remaining - Her mother Martyl the Liepard and Riichi the Purrloin. Yasuo, from whom Miyako got her psychic species, lost his life on the day that Tabira fell under attack from pirates on the coast and bandits from the mountains - he had already escorted his wife and son to safety, but with Miyako still potentially out in the mayhem the former guild worker knew she would need help getting away from danger. He was right; Miyako was in the middle of being attacked by some particularly aggressive bandits when Yasuo finally reached her. Unfortunately, the combination of age, exhaustion from running so far to get to her, the numbers stacked against him and the time he had spent away from the guild blunting his skills, Yasuo was dealt a lethal blow in the skirmish, barely managing to drive off their enemies from the building and bring Miyako to a high point where the guilds could mount an aerial rescue. He died in her arms, having her promise not to feel guilty and to continue being who she was, not who others needed her to be.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle With how quickly and secretly Sela's funeral was held by the Tabiran guild, Miyako hasn't had the chance to completely mourn her own father's death yet. The guild had countless members eager to send Sela off properly; even if Gemma preferred to keep the attendees to a minimum they still had plenty of help preparing a small service. Yasuo's memorial, unfortunately, isn't covered by the guild and they were deported to the nearby islands as soon as Gemma felt comfortable heading out. Miyako partly prefers this, because she's not totally ready to face the reality of not having a loved one waiting to see her the next time she visits with them.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Given that she doesn't spend much time fooling around her her psychic abilities, Miyako had a lot of free time instead to hone her skills as a baker at Latté Ah's. She's by no means a 5-star cook, but the tiny little "family-owned" business Eustace keeps up is still making enough money to get by with just one manager and a cook to run the place - and a lot of folks have told the pair that the cakes (which Miyako prepares) are to die for.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Given that her mom's side of the family is feline, Miyako has inherited a lot of catlike traits herself. She'll sometimes brush her head with her palms instead of her fingers, has an express dislike for being wet (if she's not in a tub anyway, and ESPECIALLY if the water is cold) and will sometimes growl if she's upset. She does enjoy milk too, but tries not to drink too much of it to avoid affecting her health.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Miyako is also tied to Team Pas De Deux (my collab team with katterboxes ). She became friends with Noir's twin brother Makoto, after making a delivery to his house and finding his sweet and quiet demeanor pretty charming. And while the easiest thing for Miyako to talk about is baking and cooking (and both sides tend to find delicious recipes to exchange) Makoto seems to be interested in hearing about her family too, getting a thoughtful and longing look when she gets to talking about her brother and mom. It's picked up a little more recently, so Miyako thinks that it might have something to do with her dad passing away and him wanting to encourage her to unload her emotional baggage. Serris, meanwhile, is convinced it has to do with his "annoying idiot brother".

Tiny Pixel Sparkle This one's pretty simple. The gloves Miyako wears are actually embedded with Everstones. She isn't sure if they're genuine, since the concept of preventing evolution is so foreign in typical Pokémon society. EVERYONE wants to evolve, right? Her dad knew they were real, but also understood why she couldn't be sure. Either way, given how much Miyako has grown it might be difficult for her to prevent an evolution if they come off - which is why she gets panicked when that happens. Raydn already freaked her out when demonstrating her Thief technique to get them off - proving that Miyako holds her status as an Abra and not an evolved Pokémon very seriously.

Liam the Ducklett
Team Smooth Standing by KazzMcSass

This might be a little tricky! He's a pretty simple character all things considered.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle As shown in his bio, Liam has a hard time with electricity after an incident with his family. Natural 4x weakness to that element aside, he did watch someone in his flock get toasted during an argument and took a few zaps of his own from a small distance away. Because of that, he doesn't do well around Electric-types, even if they're friendlies - Ardent Cinders or Roaring Icebergs, he just clams up and/or gets either really clingy to Jon or tries to find somewhere to get out of sight ASAP.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Despite not being in a typical culture where Pokémon live in a town or city of some sort, the fact that Liam lived with a migrating flock didn't stop him from getting a decent education. Traveling from place to place actually opened up his flock to opportunities to learn from all sorts of different places in the same way most kids grow up in a single home. Liam can read, write, knows how to set up an emergency guild smoke signal... granted, most of it comes from folks with more direct experience but he's not a naive kid.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Liam's cousin Aldin, a Torchic from Rift City, had been in the guild for some time and was the main inspiration for Liam suggesting the job to Jonathan. Aldin is much more confident than Liam and has a lot more overall accomplishments under his belt -- or feather -- although that's not to say he doesn't have faith that Liam has potential too, and along with the rest of Liam's flock the little Torchic has done a lot to encourage Liam to step out of his comfort zone and try something that might open up a path for him to do something that really makes him happy.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle It's extremely difficult to make friends with Liam, not because he isn't friendly but because he's so skittish. The circumstances with Jonathan were just the right means for them to become pals as Jonathan was exhausted, alone and afraid when Liam met him in the woods. If their meeting had been more average, Jonathan's fancy clothes and proper behavior would likely have made Liam believe they wouldn't click. ... Funnily enough, although Dessie is on fairly good terms with both of them her first intro to Liam was awkward since just her waking up spooked the duck boy, and her proceeding to pick him up in her arms was a little less relaxing than she meant for it to be. Still, Liam does appreciate being around someone who he thinks is strong because lately a lot more danger has been cropping up with the guilds and he isn't sure he can defend himself.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle If you get Liam spooked enough, expect a bunch of loose feathers to go flying! Feather Dance is practically his self-defense; trying to blind and slow down his attacker so he can get away. Not that he really strategizes it that way; when panicking he kind of just lets 'em loose. The feathers do make for a great pillow though! :D

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Asking Liam what he thinks of the Ancients would get you a stammering ducky. When asked about something he feels like he's expected to answer with solid facts, kind of like a test. With the Ancients though, literally nobody knows what's going on. Their technology and buildings were left behind but no history or bodies have every been found. Whatever could have made them leave, it seems like it was a major emergency specifically for them. Though, how did Pokémon today find all of this stuff? Maybe they traveled to Huana from across the sea? What if it was a gift to Pokémon that the Ancients didn't want them to be given in person, like an experiment? It could even be long-lost history that the Pokémon thousands of years ago wouldn't have batted an eye at. Liam has thought a little bit about this stuff, but it's all nothing more than assumptions. No evidence, certainly no proof to work from.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle Liam tries his best to keep his formalwear nice and tidy on each outing, since a piece of advice he was given by Jonathan is to "dress for the job you want, not the one you have". Liam isn't really sure what job he WANTS, but he likes the look and Jonathan has agreed that it suits him.

Tiny Pixel Sparkle (cheatinggggg) In the future, after the end of the Rival-Gates storying/campaign, I want Liam to become a coordinator in an office position, something like Butter the Sewaddle in Rift City or Ebony+Ezra the Grumpig/Accelgor duo in Asteria City have. Action and adventure aren't Liam's strong suits and he's understood that from the beginning, but over the course of these adventures he might just figure out that what he brings to the table is an understanding of the work that needs to be done and a way of thinking that can find the best tasks for everyone involved to tackle (provided he isn't worrying himself into a bald duck anyway.)
